Evening Events
The evening events were held at the Aquatic Center, the largest convention center in Lake Havasu. Dinner was a well prepared Polynesian style chicken and barbeque ribs.
It was a full house, and the ambience was very festive. As photos of the daily events and boat parade were displayed on the back wall the energy in the room intensified to a feeling of expectation and high energy as people saw pictures of themselves in the presentation.
The stage was completely decked out with thousands of dollars in givaways. Stereos, electronics, wake boards, Essex beach chairs, e-z ups, regatta banners and more. There were also many cash prized to be awarded to the lucky Essex boat owners and their family and friends.
After a short thank you speech from Ron and Steve Sanchez it was time to let the games begin. Ron was feeling generous as he began his Monty Hall impression and organized a "Lets make a deal" sketch, where prizes were hidden beneath boxes and the contestants were given a choice to keep what they had won or trade it for what was behind the curtain. Or in this case for" what was under the box".
Many of the gambler type people willing to take a chance benefited greatly while others didnt fare so well. All was in good fun and none of the contestants walked away empty handed. As for those not selected to play, they displayed excellent support for the players by cheering for the winners.
Amy and Rett also added a nice touch by spontaneously running into the audience with prizes and throwing them randomly about, keeping the energy level high.
The Essex family and friends are a great group of people to hang out with. They are down to earth and funloving. Their participation has made the Essex Regatta 2002 an event to remember. Thank you all.
